10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal. but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. 2 Corinthians 10:4 KJV
What does all of that mean? It means that a lot of the things that attack us are not physical. Most are not, actually. Normally, people do not come to your house, knock on your door, and punch you in the face. (Normally.) Normally, people will not come to your house and commit arson, despite thinly veiled threats on social media. And that's a good thing for them, considering security cameras. Yes, there is a lot of unrest in the world, and there are indeed people who have done such things, as we see on the news. But what we are talking about here is spiritual warfare. It's definitely not a new concept, but I feel that a lot of us have forgotten what we learned in Sunday school or church. And maybe our eyes have been closed too long because we get used to the "new normal" and are used to seeing unthinkable acts on television, and we see people on social media who feel like they are entitled to say whatever they want with no consequences or accountability. Or censor what they do not agree with.
Power, true power, has been forgotten. It's at each of our fingertips. No, not the keyboard. The Word of God. It teaches us that we have to look at what is really going on, and how to effectively guard against it and battle it. We are not battling one another. We are battling spiritual forces. Evil ones. There's a bigger picture. It's the elephant in the room. Once you see it, it cannot be unseen.
What is the Whole Armor of God? And how is it pertinent to you?
The belt of truth. There is only one truth in every situation. Truth is based on facts, not perceptions or opinions. It is not warped, it does not depend on individuality (example: such as the trending phrases "Live your truth", "his truth", "her truth", "your truth". This implies there are many versions of the truth and that everyone is righteous in their own eyes. Understand and differentiate, using discernment.
The breastplate of righteousness. Righteousness comes from God. He is the only one who is righteous and is the only one who can give it. We cannot be righteous in our own eyes, we have to be righteous in God's eyes.
The shoes of peace. Our feet shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace. When we put our shoes on, we're ready to go somewhere. If they are shod with the preparation of the Gospel (message) of peace, we're not ready to go kick ass. We're ready to share God's word about peace. We're ready to go make peace, we're ready to go and do what is good and right.
The shield of faith. There are plenty of things we are bombarded with daily that can make us feel like we have been through the wringer. Those are spiritual attacks. Doubt, seeing the amount of hatred that is out there in the world, unjust actions, attacks on character and old-fashioned jealousy. I can think of plenty more, I bet you can too. Some days all we see and experience seems negative and makes us wish the day was over. The shield of faith protects us from the attacks. We don't have a literal shield around us, going through our day to day lives, or around our house. But we do have a spiritual one. We have faith that we are protected, and that we don't have to withstand enemy hits. I've seen a painting by a Christian artist that is very thought-provoking, showing a mother shielding her child from flaming arrows while she is taking flaming arrows in the back. it's nice, and I get the meaning and intent the artist had in mind. But it feels wrong. God never intended us to be out in the middle of a field with flaming arrows and we're just sitting there shielding ourselves our our children, merely withstanding, enduring, and taking hits. We are not meant to be martyrs. We are not meant to withstand and just survive, taking hit after hit. We don't even have to be aware of the hits, because they're not going to hit their mark. We can walk around throughout our day unaffected, completely unbothered, blissfully protected by the shield of faith.
The helmet of salvation - What is salvation? It is knowing that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and accepting the gift of forgiveness and knowing that we will go to Heaven when we die. That is only scratching the surface of what salvation is. It is being transformed by the renewing of our minds. "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." (Romans 12:2 KJV.) The helmet of salvation protects our minds. It is like a psychic shield. Protecting us from the thought patterns of the world, transforming our minds to be able to grasp what is true, what is good, and changing our own thought patterns and psychic awareness and breaking free of old ways of thinking that do not serve our higher purpose and greater good. Master your own mind. Once you do, you are unshakeable. You will know the truth, hold fast to what you believe to be right, and you won't struggle to make sense of what you see and will see it as it truly is. Your mind won't feel as weary at the end of the day from constant bombardment of misinformation, toxicity, and utter rubbish. "I woke up this mornin' with my mind stayed on Jesus."*
The sword of the spirit. The Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. It is every weapon we need in our arsenal. All of these other items in our armor may seem like defensive measures. Protective measures. But do not mistake them for being passive. We don't battle simply by being aggressive. We don't need to be. Just as silence is not complicity. But when you are done being silent, the Word of God is your weapon. This does not mean shouting it in your enemy's face, either. It does not mean spray painting it for all to see. Speak the Word of God quietly in prayer, meditate on it. Understand it. Knowledge plus understanding plus faith equals power. Pray the Word of God and the Blood of Jesus over your babies, over your home, over your job, over your situation. It is mighty! Your Grandmother's prayers are still protecting you, guiding you, are the voice in your ear telling you to "stop that, it's wrong." You know what I'm talking about. Pray the Word of God over your enemies. That's how you deal with those kind of people. When the Bible says to pray for our enemies, do you think it means a fluffy flowery prayer like a field of unicorns and rainbows? Nope. If you know, you know. Why do you think Hoodoo utilizes Scripture? Because therein is true power if you are on the right side of God. And that is the difference between knowing and understanding the Bible and having a relationship with God versus posting in Hoodoo groups, "What Psalm can I use for this spell?" If you look into the Word of God just to get what you think you're entitled to, you're missing it and you aren't ready yet, plus it is playing a dangerous game. The Bible is not a vending machine, and God don't play. The Word of the Lord is a two-edged sword. "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12 KJV)
